Nintendo President Satoru Iwata passed away at 55

Nintendo today announced the passing of its President and CEO, Satoru Iwata. Iwata passed away last Saturday from a bile duct growth. Iwata was a long time serving CEO, joining Nintendo in 2000 and becoming President in 2002. Under Iwata, Nintendo released the highly successful Nintendo DS and the revolutionary Nintendo Wii. In 2013, he became CEO for Nintendo America. In 2014, Iwata missed the annual video game expo, E3 and it was later revealed that he was undergoing surgery for a tumor in the bile duct. Earlier this year, as reported on App Sentral, Iwata announced Nintendo's foray into smartphone gaming with a partnership with Japanese mobile gaming company, DeNA.
