Samsung announces Tizen OS smartphone, Samsung Z

June 4, 2014 - Samsung has announced what is touted as the world's first Tizen OS smartphone. Like Android, Tizen is an open source platform based on Linux OS and is governed by a Technical Steering Group composing of Samsung, Intel, Fujitsu, NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone just to name a few. The Samsung Z weighs 136g and comes with a fingerprint sensor and Super AMOLED 4.8 inches capacitive touchscreen. Internally, the phone packs 16 GB of storage space, with microSD expansion of up to 64 GB and is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core microprocessor. The Samsung Z is expected to be marketed in Russia in the third quarter of this year. 

Update : Samsung has announced on Monday that the sale of this phone has been postponed, citing a need to further enhance the Tizen ecosystem.
