Apple has yet to unveil the iPhone 6 but Samsung has already fired its first battle shot. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is in many ways positioned to take on the next iPhone with its metal frame edges and smaller 4.7 inch screen that matches iPhone 6's rumoured size. This phone is a new phone series in Samsung's line of smartphones and it is packing some interesting kicks. For a start, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is powered by a Exynos 5 octa-core processor, comprising of a four 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz  Cortex-A7 cores. The fingerprint scanner is there under the home key and the heart rate monitor is located at the rear. The display comes with Samsung's trademark Super AMOLED, but it is only a 720p HD resolution, which pales in comparison to the Galaxy S5 having a 1080p full HD resolution screen. In a surprising move, Samsung have opted to furnish this phone with a 32GB storage space with no expandable microSD slot. Though Samsung have said the phone is a new design, it bears much similarities to the 5S. In recent months, sales of Samsung phones are dipping due to intense competition from Chinese phone makers, namely Xiaomi. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is seen to be an attempt to compete in the premium market.
