Xiaomi Tech, Chinese's latest sensational smartphone and tablet maker has beaten Samsung to become China's number one smartphone brand in the second quarter. It became too the world's fifth-largest smartphone vendor for the first time, beating LG Electronics Inc. In the second quarter, Xiaomi sold 15 million smartphones in China, a three-fold surge from the previous year. This is in comparison to Samsung, which for the same period sold 13.2 million units, down from 15.5 million last year. China is the world's largest smartphone market, with nearly four in ten smartphones sold in the middle kingdom. The rise of Xiaomi is attributed to its competitive pricing and focus on its own version of Android, the MIUI.
